Good education is a good investment
We have around 90 primary schools and 60 secondary schools including training schools for apprentices. Computers are standard equipment in the region’s classrooms, and the use of laptops in secondary school classes is growing fast. Sport and music – including many school orchestras – are also part of a German child's school experience.
Two topics are currently at the focus of the development of our schools. Firstly, local education authorities are working to improve cooperation between schools, and with companies who offer apprenticeships. And secondly, there is an increasing focus on practical subjects, in particular science and technology.
Our region even has a "Centre of learning for technology and nature" with sites at Wilhelmshaven, Varel and Nordenham. These coveted facilities are funded by the EFRE (European fund for regional development) to improve and deepen children's knowledge of maths and natural sciences. There are good job opportunities for scientists and technicians in the region and good people are needed to maintain the region's growth.
