Location and infrastructure
Comprising the City of Wilhelmshaven and the administrative districts of Friesland, Wesermarsch and Wittmund, the JadeBay Region is a union of 24 municipalities and has roughly 334,000 inhabitants.
Access to the region is possible via the A27, A28 and A29 motorways, a network of excellently developed national, state and district roads, as well as by a comprehensive network of local passenger and freight railways. At the centre of the area are the regionally important Mariensiel airfield and the Wilhelmshaven deep-water port, where the deep-water container terminal JadeWeserPort will be completed by 2012, and the sea and river ports of Brake, Nordenham, Elsfleth and Lemwerder. In addition, Bremen international airport is in the direct vicinity.
Economic structure
JadeBay is just as much home to successful companies of international renown, as it is to a multitude of innovative, small and medium-sized enterprises.
Carried out primarily in the form of grassland farming (dairy and cattle farming), agriculture too is one of the key branches of the regional economy.
A further major economic and regional asset is tourism. The North Sea, good air and abundant nature are all positive qualities for the region.
This exemplary coexistence of industry, leisure activities and tourism is characteristic of the JadeBay Region.
